To make appropriate individualized reading choices, Village Pines students may use the Lexile Framework for Reading. This is a scientific approach to reading and text measurement that puts the reader and text on a common scale.
On the Stanford 10 Student Report you will find a Lexile measure, which is a reading ability or text difficulty score followed by an L. You can go online to match this score to a developmental scale for reading that ranges from 200L for beginning readers to above 1700L for advanced text. The Lexile Framework matches reader ability and text difficulty.
Go to www.HarcourtLexile.com to get information regarding where to find the Lexile measure and how to establish a range. The range for the student should be the Lexile number +25 points and -25 points. For example, if the Lexile measure is 600, then the range would be 575 to 625. Then go to www.Lexile.com to find books. Click on the Book Search tab. You can do a Title/Author search or a Lexile/Keyword search.
